Tmj problems? advice needed!!?

so i have some trouble with tmj 5 months back, achy jaw, pressure on cheek bones, headache etc. I went to the dentist and docs and they said it could keep flaring up from time to time.Around 2 weeks ago i started chewing gum and eating hard mints ( i also bite my nails ALOT), needless to say a few days later my jaw started to feel weird. Now the right side of my face and neck are a little sore. My jaw isnt too bad but i keep getting a pressure feeling on my right temple bone and the right eye is hurting a little. when i put ice on my jaw and head it seems to help a little bit but not for very long. Does this sound like tmj or something more serious? im a worrier and am worried it could be a brain tumour or something like that. regardsTmj problems? advice needed!!?
you need to get your TMJ treated, I had the same problem and i went to a good orthodontist and its all fixed now..... i couldn't open my mouth wide enough to even eat a sandwich, and it clicked all the time...... now i can eat big fat sandwiches no problem and it no longer clicks (maybe a little but only if i try to make it click).

lots of things can cause it. partly genetic (my orthodontist said its very common in people with dutch decent, but not only limited to them). also to do with western diet which can have a bad influence on jaw development.

TMJ can cause severe and frequent headache, migraines, ringing in the ears and lots more.

it is basically due to malformed jaw.

my orthodontist isn't like most orthodontist in that he doesn't believe in pulling out teeth unless it is absolutely necessary, rather he grows your jaw (yes you can grow peoples jaws - even in adults).

i'm from new zealand (this is my orthodontists website http://www.growthorthodontics.com/ ) if you from another country maybe they can recommend someone?... but i did find a website about a similar orthodontist in America ( i think its similar) http://www.facialbeauty.org/about.html

you should try to wear a dental mouthgaurd (not a sport mouthgaurd) to relieve any tension in you jaw. you can buy one at walmart or drug store or have your dentist make u one. take some motrin to help you jaw muscles relax. don't chew gum or bite nail as u see it makes it worse
